A New Year card, not a forward.

Three finished New Year cards are on this page — not pictures of them, the real thing. Tap an envelope and read what comes out. If one is close to what you would say, the link underneath opens the write page with those exact words already in the box.

Three cards, already made

Tap an envelope to open it. Nothing here is sent to anybody — these are samples, and the links below them open the write page with that note in the message box, which is as far as any of it goes. We never ask for the other person’s number: you get a link at the end and you send it yourself.

  1. For your family · Marigold, the default hand

    Tap the envelope

Happy New Year to everyone at home. Thank you for holding the year together, especially through the months that weren't easy on any of us. Whatever this one turns out to be, I'm glad it's this family going into it. Wishing all of you health first.

  2. For a friend · Sky, casual hand

    Tap the envelope

Happy New Year. Thanks for being one of the fixed points in a fairly strange year. Whatever this one turns out to be, I'd rather be going into it with you somewhere in it. Let's actually meet more than twice. Twice is our current record.

  3. For your family · Lilac, formal script

    Tap the envelope

Happy New Year to all of you. I'm not going to promise this one will be kind, but I hope it's quieter than the last twelve months were, and I hope the good parts land before the difficult ones do. I'll be there for more of this year.

The names on these three are made up. The words are the suggestions we wrote, which is exactly what you get in the box — and then you change whatever is only yours.

What you are buying

₹49 is the card itself: up to 400 characters in your own words, the envelope, the wax seal, and the paper unfolding when they open the link on their phone — which is what the three above are doing. You see the finished thing, working, before you pay for it.

₹99 adds a photo, or a voice note of up to a minute in your own voice — one or the other, not both — and lets you seal the card so it will not open before a time you choose, anywhere from fifteen minutes to thirty days ahead, Indian time. Either card stays readable for ninety days, counted from when you send it or from when a sealed one unlocks.

The paper, the envelope colour, the wax and the handwriting are all yours to change while you write — the three above are three of the combinations, not three fixed designs. There is no account to make and nothing recurring. We do not know when a card is opened, and we do not tell you.

At midnight everybody sends the same picture of fireworks. A sealed envelope that opens at midnight, with a sentence in it about the year they actually had, is a different message.
