Raksha Bandhan · Friday 28 August

Open one before you write one.

Three finished Rakhi cards are on this page — not pictures of them, the real thing. Tap an envelope and read what comes out. If one of them is close to what you would say, the link underneath opens the write page with those exact words already in the box.

Three cards, already made

Tap an envelope to open it. Nothing here is sent to anybody — these are samples, and the links below them open the write page with that note in the message box, which is as far as any of it goes. We never ask for the other person’s number: you get a link at the end and you send it yourself.

  1. For a brother · Marigold, casual hand

    Tap the envelope

Happy Rakhi, bhai. Different cities, same arrangement as always. You're still the first person I call when something breaks and the first one I want to tell when something finally goes right. Have a good day today, and don't skip the sweets.

  2. For a sister · Blush, formal script

    Tap the envelope

Happy Raksha Bandhan, behen. The arrangement holds, whatever city either of us ends up in. You've been fighting my corner since long before I did anything to deserve it, and I've never properly said thank you for that. Hope this year is a good one.

  3. For a cousin · Sage, the default hand

    Tap the envelope

Happy Rakhi. Cousin on paper, sibling in every way that ever counted. All those years of being dumped in the same house every summer did the job that growing up together does, and it has held. Hope this year treats you well from start to finish.

The names on these three are made up. The words are the suggestions we wrote, which is exactly what you get in the box — and then you change whatever is only yours.

What you are buying

₹49 is the card itself: up to 400 characters in your own words, the envelope, the wax seal, and the paper unfolding when they open the link on their phone — which is what the three above are doing. You see the finished thing, working, before you pay for it.

₹99 adds a photo, or a voice note of up to a minute in your own voice — one or the other, not both — and lets you seal the card so it will not open before a time you choose, anywhere from fifteen minutes to thirty days ahead, Indian time. Either card stays readable for ninety days, counted from when you send it or from when a sealed one unlocks.

The paper, the envelope colour, the wax and the handwriting are all yours to change while you write — the three above are three of the combinations, not three fixed designs. There is no account to make and nothing recurring. We do not know when a card is opened, and we do not tell you.

On the day their phone fills with the same four forwarded images. A sealed envelope with their name on it and something only you would say inside it is not one of them.

This one asks who it is for first, then offers suggestions to start from.
